How to pay fine for using public trasportation without ticket
While using public transportation in Berlin you have to use valid ticket which is stamped, otherwise you probably get fine.
When you use public transport in Berlin, except buses you don't show your ticket to anybody as a regular thing. But sometimes ticket controllers come to U-Bahn, S-Bahn or other vehicles in order to check if you have ticket and/or whether you stamped it before using public transportation or not.
Therefore, if you don't have a valid ticket, you have to pay a fine of 60€. "The fine will be reduced to 7€ in cases where a passenger is able to prove that they had a valid ticket (only in cases where it is non-transferrable) at the time that they received the penalty notice"1.
Fare Evasion in Berlin
If you don't have a valid ticket, you have to pay a fine of 60€. The fine will be reduced to 7€ in cases where a passenger is able to prove that they had a valid ticket (only in cases where it is non-transferrable) at the time that they received the penalty notice.
Anyone caught in public transportion (sic) without a valid ticket must pay a higher fare of 60 Euros. Even people who forgot to stamp their ticket must pay the fine. Note: Ticket inspectors are dressed in plain clothes and will not make any exceptions for tourists. Those who get caught have to show an ID, otherwise the police will be called.2
Paying the fine
We can pay the fine in two ways:
- Online payment to bank account of the relevant company (BVG, DB)
- Direct payment in the customer office (Kundenbüro) of the company
Customer office's address: S-Bahnhof Ostbahnhof, Galerie (1. Etage), Koppenstr. 3, 10243, Berlin
In order to pay the fine for S-Bahn, we have to go to Deutsche Bahn Customer office in Ostbahnhof station.
If we have a non-transferable ticket and we didn't have it with ourselves when we got fine, we also have to take the ticket and receipt of fine to the costumer office. Then we will pay 7€ fine directly there.
Regarding paying the fine for U-Bahn, bus or tram we have to go to one of the BVG customers offices in The city. The customer center is in Holzmarktstraße 15.
